Amassing Street fitness tournament marked the final of Sofia’s urban
sport zone 2019.
The tournament was opened by the legend of Bulgarian sport Yordan
Yovchev and Anatoli Iliev – organization secretary of the Sofia –
European Capital of Sport Foundation, the organizer of the Urban Zone.
Thew both welcomed participants and guests, wishing more similar
meetings for fans of modern urban disciplines. This was followed by the
stunning demonstration of Tsvetelina Staneva (18) and Jasmina Svilenova
(14), who ignited the audience with their performances.

Portugal’s junior men and Bulgarian junior women teams triumphed in the
four-day basketball tournament of the Sofia Urban Zone 2018 program. The
rain on Thursday night forsed the last games to be moved to the Triadica
Hall. The Portuguese beat Istanbul in the final by 15: 6, and in the
decisive title match for the ladies, the team of “2006 Champion” beat 7:
5 the Spanish team from Moyet to keep the gold in Bulgaria.

On the second day of the Taekwondo trials, Turkey’s representatives
Aybuke Sycukar and Bouse Arslan performed very well, the two girls
trained with Burju Junger at the Istanbul Amateur Sports Federation. For
the second consecutive day, the audience at the Knyazheska Garden was
ignited by the phenomenal acrobat performances by Portugal’s youth
national team, with coach Ana Cardoso.

Orienteers were also into the program. The competition was among the
most contested in the Urban program. The guests from Estonia shared with
the hosts two titles in different age groups. Here are the champions:
girls under 16 Elisee Keskula (Estonia), under 18 Evangelina Dyakovska,
adolescents under 16 Jurgen Ionas (Estonia), under 18 Tsenko Tsenkov.
The sports orientation was held in the complex of the National Sports
Academy.

Breathtaking performances were offered by participants in the city
parkour. The competition was valid for the World Cup and some of the
best on the planet arrived in Sofia. Frenchmen Joan Tonoa and Valentine
Dubois, plus Dimetris Kirsanidis DK from Greece showed the best in speed
and style categories. The world-wide sports experts were happy with the
presence of their idol Yordan Yovchev, the legendary gymnast watch the
race and awarded the winners. The rain in Sofia did not allow the
participants to complete their trials and the competition had to be
conducted according to a shortened program. Here are the winners: Speed
Kirsanidis DK, Tonoa, Ruslan Peshev; Style Tonoa, Kirsanidis DK, Ioan
Dosev.

They all joined in with their virtuoso dance performances on the final
night of DJ Akash’s music. At the ceremony, all Heads of Delegation from
the 12 participating countries were honored with special plaques from
Sofia, the European Capital of Sport. The awards were given by Anatoli
Iliev, the Foundation’s organizational secretary, who congratulated the
athletes and coaches, thanking them for participating in Sofia last
week. “We are happy to host such a multinational and multisport forum. I
hope you had fun and that you will keep great memories from our city as
European capital of sports,” Iliev said.

This ended the debut issue of Urban Zone Sport. Sofia is the first ever
city in the world to bring together so many aces in the new urban
disciplines. For a week, mfre than 300 representatives of 12 countries
have shown their skills in the Bulgarian capital, with tournaments,
trials and demonstrations of 12 sports. This is twice as much as the
trials and contests of the first World Urban Games in Budapest last
weekend. Now, on Saturday and Sunday, the urban action and emotions
continue with Extreme disciplines in the Knyazheska Garden in front of
Sofia University.
